After School Program

There is an Open Door, Inc. provides an after school program to low and moderate income children and families. The program includes academic assessments, tutoring, food and nutrition services, and interaction with the different schools that each student attend.  In addition we provide assistance to those families in need of wrap around support such as food, counseling, referrals, or other supportive services.  The operating hours for the afterschool program are Monday – Thursday (3:30 until 6:00), during the months of September – June.  Each student is provided a healthy snack and dinner daily while attending the program.

The afterschool program has partnered with Delaware State University Cooperative Extension 4H & Youth Development Program to form an Open Door 4HClub. The 4H Club meets on Thursday evenings during the after school program. The 4H Club provides the students with an opportunity to participate in

community service projects, such as the collection of purses and toiletries for local homeless and battered women’s shelters, the collection of water for Haiti, the collection of can goods to help provide

Thanksgiving meals, and many more community activities.  During Science Month, The Open Door 4H Club is an active participant in the scheduled events and Science Projects; one such project is the on-site hatchery.

WSFS is also a partner with There is An Open Door, Inc. After School Program; with the bank’s support our children and their parents are educated on the many different aspects of  banking and financial management.
